Metamask is a cryptocurrency wallet that is designed to be easy to use with blockchain applications. It allows you to use your cryptocurrency tokens directly through your web browser for things like payments and donations.

 

Note: We will be assuming that you are using Google Chrome as your browser; Metamask is also compatible with Firefox, Opera and Brave browsers.

Downloading Metamask Extension

 

Step 1: Download the Extension

Download the extension from the Google Extension Store

Add the extension to Chrome by clicking on the “Add to Chrome” button.

Confirm the download by clicking on the “Add extension” button from the pop-up.

Step 2: Register Your Account

 

Click on the Metamask icon on the top right of your screen.

Accept the terms and conditions of using Metamask.

Create your password. Keep this password confidential -- treat it as you would treat your bank login credentials.

Step 3: Write Down your Seed Phrase

 

After putting in your password, you will be given a 12 word seed phrase. Write this phrase down somewhere safe.

This phrase will allow you to access your wallet if you lose the credentials. It will also allow anybody access to your wallet, even without a password. This means you must take measures to protect it.

After this step, your wallet will have been created and you can start using Metamask!

Using Metamask

 

Step 1: Your Wallet Address

 

To access your wallet address, click on the ellipses on the top right. Then, click on “Copy Address to clipboard”. Your address is now ready to be pasted as a recipient.

This address is where you will send tokens to fund your account.

Note: If you used Coinbase to purchase your first crypto tokens, this is the address you should send your funds to. Not sure how to send funds?

 

Step 2: Choose a Network

 

In order to make payments, you must be running on the “Main Network”. If this is not already selected, click on the dropdown menu at the top left and switch it to “Main Network.”

Step 3: Accessing Metamask

 

To maintain security, it is recommended that you logout of Metamask after you are done using it. This is done by clicking on the hamburger icon on the top right, and selecting logout.

 

To log back into Metamask Login, simply click on the fox (on the top right of your browser, next to the other Chrome plugins) and enter your password.

 

If you forget your password, click on the “Restore from seed phrase” button below login. Here you will be asked to enter the 12 word seed phrase given to you during the signup process to recover your account.

 

After you input the 12 word seed phrase, choose a new password and press on “OK”. Your account has now been recovered.
